Medicinal & Culinary Mushrooms: An Online Presentation – Thursday, January 15, 7-8:30pm
Dear Readers,
I’m pleased to announce my upcoming presentation all about medicinal and culinary mushrooms. In addition to being an integrative health & nutrition coach, I’m production manager, mushroom walk leader, and writer for Catskill Fungi. I’m also an active forager who has integrated herbal and fungal medicine into my life for over forty years. I weave this practice together with functional nutrition to create my unique approach as a health coach.
As production manager for Catskill Fungi, I’m responsible for producing high-quality liquid extracts from six different mushrooms: Reishi, Chaga, Cordyceps, Lions Mane, Maitake, and Turkey Tail. You can read my latest article, “Spotlight on Chaga,” here.
From the forest to the kitchen and medicine cabinet, mushrooms are powerful allies for building and sustaining health. But with the market increasingly flooded with mushroom products, how do we know what to choose? How do mushrooms work in our bodies, and how can we get the most out of them?
On January 15th, I’ll be presenting a two-hour class on this fascinating subject. We’ll begin with a brief overview of the life cycle of mushrooms, their role in the ecosystem, and how this relates to their role in human health. Other subjects include:
• Different types of mushrooms and their basic identifying characteristics
• How medicinal and culinary mushrooms work in the body
• Different types of herbal and fungal extracts and how they’re made
• How to choose and get the most out of medicinal mushroom extracts
• The medicinal attributes of the six mushrooms that are the basis of Catskill Fungi extracts
